"Only a real artist knows the actual anatomy of the terrible or the physiology of fear - the exact sort of lines and proportions that connect up with latent instincts or hereditary memories of fright, and the proper color contrasts and lighting effects to stir the dormant sense of strangeness." - H. P. Lovecraft
"Its Genius, Just Jenus."
Just Jenus Art was created by Justin Johnta Perry. Justin is an artist born in North Carolina and raised in Person County Roxboro. He began his interest in art early in childhood surrounded by family members with artistic talents. Over the years Justin has concentrated free time on art and creativity as well as focusing electives towards the arts such as band and visual arts. As Justin grew he was able to take several art classes at Person High School advancing to Art 4. He continued taking art courses while obtaining his undergraduate at Saint Augustine's College. Justin's Art is a focus of pencil sketches of various models, acrylic paintings, abstract watercolor pieces, digital art and illustrations. His creations comes from how he sees the world and what he wants to say about it. A black woman sitting on a bench for Just Jenus can be a challenge to draw, or a passive representation of the beauty of women, she could be a statement on the importance for Afro sisters to find their inner thoughts. Justin/Jenus seeks to create his own universe through art.
Art has always been apart of Justin's life. His interest and natural talent led him to take minor courses Person High School in Roxboro and in college at Saint Augustine's in Raleigh. During his matriculation at Saint Augustine's, Justin developed as a visual artist, writer, digital media illustrator and spoken word poet. He became of one the founding members of the Falcon Poetry Club which is still present and active at Saint Augustine's University. Falcon Poetry Club or FPC creates a place for poets and performers to meet and collaborate on personal development, group events and campus projects. FPC Highlights include performing at North Carolina Museum of Art in Fall 2011. Presenting writing workshops at the State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium in both Fall 2010 and Fall 2011. Also traveling as a club to Washington DC to perform spoken word at The Split This Rock Festival in 2010.
After his graduation, Justin traveled to China with Saint Augustine's Study Aboard program. The program gave Justin the opportunity to discover the country's history and culture leaving a strong impact on Justin's view of art and its lasting influence. With Justin's return to the United States, the spirit of art came more in the form of visual pieces. Canvases and sketch pads that represented the view of a young black mind in America. As time passed and as confidence was gained in his work, Justin began aggressively creating pieces for public display and sale.
Even his early works involved black models, afro centric ideas, the cosmos and inspiration from the underrepresented. With each creation Justin saw art as more than a talent or hobby but as a combination of professional freedom, opportunity and satisfaction. Most of all, Justin realized that he can create Happiness.
Just Jenus Art is about choosing a path that combines passion and talent to recreate yourself and create something new. It is Justin Perry being what he has always been and is obviously meant to be, an Artist. An artist that is constantly opening himself up to the world around him to change it for the better.
