String Instruments Drawing
Brenda has a degree in Interior Design and Architecture. After being raised in Connecticut, her family moved to NC. The job market was tough for a new graduate with no experience and Brenda needed adventure at the age of 22. She became a Flight Attendant for American Airlines for 2 years. She met her husband in Raleigh and settled down into a home and career working for an architect in Cary.
Being a Stay-at-home Mom, she needed something to call her own. She started sketching with pen and ink for the Parade of Homes in 1999. After nearly 8 years of working for someone else, she converted her freelance work to a business. All she learned came from the collaborative experience of her fellow business owners.
She creates sketches from photographs. Only drawing buildings, she loves to illustrate homes. She also loves to help with wedding gifts, anniversary gifts or house-closings. Brenda also has also drawn many area historical buildings and collegiate landmarks. Recently she was commissioned to illustrate sports venues throughout the United States, including Lambeau Field, Wrigley Field, Fenway Park and dozens more. These can be purchased on her website, www.yourdoorandmore.com.
She has a freshman daughter at Appalachian State University and a freshman daughter at Holly Springs High School. In her spare time, Brenda loves to Zumba and walk her two rescue dogs with her hubby of nearly 23 years.
As an artist that works from photographs to create illustrations of homes and buildings, my commissioned work is hand drawn. Each individual line is crafted to represent form and texture. Light and shadow is also a series of lines. This unique way of sketching brings life to the structure and the landscape around it. Each detail is added as an important element of the overall composition. The pieces are exclusively in black and white.
Becoming completely attached and emotionally invested in a pen & ink sketch, I get the feeling of home, not just a house or architecture. That small detail of a US Flag that must be on the front porch of the drawing your childhood home is important but the understanding the meaning - your Uncle was a WWII Veteran and ever Sunday he ceremoniously placed the flag in the holder. Is there a special rose bush that your Mom planted and meticulously groomed each spring? Details are what I love!
The patterns created by lines create a doodle-feel, similar to Zentangle. Recently coming into practicing Zentangle as a creative art form but also as a meditative and relaxed focus in which intuitive insights flow freely.
