Drawing Painting Sculpture
• Artist’s Objective Statement •
My name is Courtney King. I do not set out to produce art about one subject or another. I produce art to understand the issues around me. I’m never without a sketch book so I am constantly drawing. I try to use my art to express different sides of controversial issues helping to bring healing and compromise. Art has always been my outlet and escape music is a second outlet.
I hope I evoke a sense emotion, healing, understanding and compassion in my art these are just a few of the things I hope to accomplish with my art. I also want to inspire and motivate others I believe having a positive and optimistic outlook and attitude on life is a major key to success.
My influences are first and foremost everything I see, feel, and experience; nature, people and animals. Some major influences I have always loved are Japanese anime, fantasy, sci-fi, anything gothic or macabre, steam-punk, art nouveau and art deco. I use bold strong colors to help bring the observer into the emotion and feel of my artwork.
I am a self taught artist and I have been drawing since I was two years old. I want to expand my subject matter and techniques.
My work tends to focus on mythical creatures, Japanese cartoons, fantasy, anthropomorphic figures, gothic and some new age concepts. A very large part of my drawings focuses in on a singular item, person, or creature that are completely out of the ordinary but are completely comfortable within whom they are.
I am a meticulous and notorious for my attention to detail and my use of color in my art. I hope that by illustrating the beauty of all creatures, my works help the observer see and accept the beauty and potential within themselves and within others.
