I have an Associates in art from Wake technical community college and have been living in downtown Raleigh for three years. I work as an Assistant Manager at Jerry's Artarama, a Studio Assistant at Artspace, and I am the lead Organizer for artSPARK which is a non-profit organization focused on promoting Raleigh's vibrant art community. Art is my passion and purpose. I started on my path in 2010 sketching daily, then pursuing an education in studio arts, and finally working in the field in multiple capacities. Practicing several different mediums throughout the years (graphite, charcoal, chalk pastels, linoleum printing, acrylic, and oil painting) I have a deep and abiding love for all forms of art. My current work is mainly composed of surreal portraits of eyes, flowers, human figures, and sea creatures specifically jellyfish and octopi. My art is intended to allow the viewer to disengage from the normal world and experience something outside of their comfort zone. I want people to appreciate all forms of beauty, especially the ones they aren't comfortable with. I believe that allowing oneself to appreciate alien beauty creates an awareness and admiration for the "mundane" beauty that surrounds us on a daily basis. By witnessing something striking and disconcerting, yet alluring, helps people to step outside themselves and the world they are used to while also expanding their appreciation, and their knowledge, of the world around them.
