Lena Jackson is an underground hip-hop artist and poet hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina. Born and raised in poverty stricken areas, Lena grew up with music as her primary comfort, and writing as her therapy. Jackson started penning poetry as a child, but later became intrigued by the cypher sessions she would see at school cafeterias in her early teens. She eventually learned to interchange poetry stanzas for rap bars, and found pleasure in both spoken word and cypher rapping. Her hip-hop influences include Nas, MC Lyte, Outkast, and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony.
Lena Jackson is currently completing her project “The Darkness Brim EP,” slated for release in 2017. While her guest features with other artists have exposed her raw talent, Jackson’s goal with “The Darkness Brim EP” is to both display her lyrical skill set, and expound on darker topics not typically discussed in mainstream hip-hop; issues such a poverty, politics and mental illness. With powerful messages and intense delivery, it is clear that Lena Jackson is prepared to interject a different perspective into the rap game. “Darkness Brim” is the first officially released single from that project, with the song and video presently available everywhere.
